teen services
programming & events
Teen Services at the Gretna Public Library are designed for young adults in 6-12th grade. Although registration is sometimes required, a library card is never required for any programming, so you’re welcome (and encouraged!) to bring along a friend.
Click through to learn more or register for a program, or press the button below to make a suggestion.
teen advisory board
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of volunteers who work to make the library better. Members offer suggestions; propose, trial, and volunteer at programs; work on library décor; enjoy delicious free pizza; pet dogs; play games; and more!
Joining TAB is a great way to make a difference in the community by keeping the library relevant to what Gretna teens want and need. Plus, it looks pretty good on a résumé.
Students in 6-12th grade may apply to be a member with guardian permission. TAB meets on the first Thursday of the month from 4-5pm.
Not sure if TAB is for you? Drop by on one of our scheduled dates and see what it’s like before you commit. We’d love to have you!
bookwyrms book club
Bookwyrms is the young adult book club at Gretna Public Library. Young adults in 6th through 12th grade are welcome to join and and enjoy books, snacks, games, and company.
Bookwyrms meets the last Thursday of the month from 4-5pm. During the school year, members are lent books which must be returned at or around the next meeting date. You don’t need a library card to join, but will be asked to sign a form before borrowing books if you do not have a card.
- Thursday, 11/21: Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor by Xiran Jay Zhao
- Thursday, 12/19: Amber & Clay by Laura Amy Schlitz
Register for the book club below or ask a librarian to set you up.
teen takeouts
Teen Takeouts are activity kits to go! Each kit contains materials to make a small crafts and a link to the instructions to complete it. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis each month in the teen section of the library.
We are in the process of moving to eco Takeouts, which come in real takeout containers and have less paper and plastic per kit. eco Takeout containers can be returned at either library when you are finished with the craft (but you won’t be in trouble if you forget and keep it). They can also be returned in the blue basket under the teen area. You can suggest kit ideas at this link.
