Goodbye to GPL’s Glass Recycling Program
With Gretna Sanitation now offering 24/7 glass recycling, GPL made the decision to end its monthly glass recycling program in February 2026. GPL always looks for ways to serve its community, and this was more impactful than any librarian imagined.
Read on to learn the program’s details as well as where you can now take your glass.
Thank you, Gretna!
In just over two years, Gretna residents recycled 3 tons of glass using GPL’s glass recycling program! To be exact, 439 people recycled 6,653 pounds of glass, and saved approximately 2,528 miles transporting the glass to the nearest Ripple bin.
These incredible numbers wouldn’t have been possible without citizens who cared not only for the environment, but who paid attention to how their library was serving them. Thank you.

Thank you, Gretna Sanitation!
We are grateful that Gretna Sanitation now provides this much-needed service to our community, with the bonus that they’re better equipped to safely handle large amounts of glass.
They also accept other recyclables. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to keep up with how else they’re helping Gretna stay green.
