Two critical library-support groups take donations to benefit the library:
Friends of the Gretna Public Library
The Ongoing Book Sale
Every time you purchase items from the Friends’ Ongoing Book Sale located in the Main Library’s meeting room, you are supporting the Friends.
Currently, you may also donate a box or two of gently used books, audiobooks, or DVDs. Bring them to the Main Library during its business hours, and a GPL librarian can both accept and write receipts for your donations.
You may drop off an item or two in the exterior book drop as long as you clearly label that they are donations. Otherwise, the librarians must assume that it is a personal item that was accidentally dropped off with library returns, and will contact all of the patrons who have used that book drop that day. If no owner is found, then the item must wait in the Lost & Found for six months before it is treated as a donation.
Fireworks Stand
One of the most popular fundraisers for this group is through its annual fireworks tent before the 4th of July. It’s always in the large white and orange striped tent along the southern side of Hwy 6, just beyond the Standing Stone development. A percentage of each sale goes towards the Friends.

The Gretna Public Library Foundation
The GPL Foundation plays a crucial role in fundraising for a modern, unified library. While the groundbreaking ceremony has occurred for the new City Complex, which includes the library, there’s still plenty of funds that are needed to outfit the larger space.
Craft Fundraisers
Closer to the winter holidays, the Foundation has handmade book ornaments and books available for various suggested donation prices. Contact Rebecca at the library if you are interested in purchasing any of these items at any other time of the year.
