The Gretna Public Library provides programming and resources for homeschooling students doing work in Grades K-8. Library cards are never required to attend a library event or participate in a library program. Click a button below to explore outside homeschooling resources.
Programming & Events
Join us on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 1:30-3:30 for Homeschool Connection. On the 1st Tuesday, there will be an activity covering an art, science, or other exciting topic that does not require registration. The 3rd Tuesday of the month is Homeschool Book Clubs (see below); you may stop by either library to pick up a copy of the next book we’ll be discussing.
Homeschool Book Clubs
These book clubs are for kids doing work in Grades K-4 and Grades 5-8 during the 2026-2027 school year. Join us on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 at the Main Library. Groups meet simultaneously.

Stella Díaz Has Something to Say by Angela Dominguez
Stella Díaz loves marine animals, especially her betta fish, Pancho. But Stella Díaz is not a betta fish. Betta fish like to be alone, while Stella loves spending time with her mom and brother and her best friend Jenny. Trouble is, Jenny is in another class this year, and Stella feels very lonely.
When a new boy arrives in Stella’s class, she really wants to be his friend, but sometimes Stella accidentally speaks Spanish instead of English and pronounces words wrong, which makes her turn roja. Plus, she has to speak in front of her whole class for a big presentation at school! But she better get over her fears soon, because Stella Díaz has something to say!

Late one night, three otherworldly creatures appear and sweep Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin O’Keefe away on a mission to save Mr. Murray, who has gone missing while doing top-secret work for the government. They travel via tesseract–a wrinkle that transports one across space and time–to the planet Camazotz, where Mr. Murray is being held captive. There they discover a dark force that threatens not only Mr. Murray but the safety of the whole universe.

Grades 5-8: We Dream of Space by Erin Entrada Kelly
